 Description

What is Cat Arthritis?

Cat Arthritis is an inflammation of the joints and can affect cats of any age, healthy or ill. Cats can be affected by either of two types of feline arthritis. Osteoarthritis usually affects older cats when the cartilage that normally cushions the joint becomes soft and breaks down with age and the joints begin to rub against each other, causing pain and discomfort. Rheumatoid arthritis is when the body rejects its own connective tissue cells, resulting in painful swelling in the joints.

The cause of feline arthritis is unknown but keeping your cat at a healthy weight and ensuring regular exercise is recommended as a preventative measure. This will keep the joints well lubricated and reduce any strain from excess body weight.
