Description
What are cat ear mites?
Mites spend most of their life living inside your cat’s ear. Because outward signs are not always apparent, it is important to have your vet check your cat’s ears at each regular check up. If untreated, cat ear mites can cause cat ear infection because bacteria will have access to the ear tissue through holes made by the mites. Because the cat ear mites are irritating, many cats will scratch which can cause reinfestation through the paws or tail. Continued scratching can lead to bald patches where hair is torn out and even bleeding. At worst, the infection can spread to the brain, where it can even cause convulsions or death.

Place two to three drops in each eardrum then apply a cotton earplug. This should be repeated twice daily. Eardrops are more effective if slightly warm to the touch. Insert the sealed tincture bottle in warm water for five minutes, and then test a drop on the back of your hand. Drops should be lukewarm (you don’t want to burn the cat ear canal).
