About cat ear infections
If your cat frequently shakes her head or scratches her ears compulsively, she may have a feline ear infection. Though not as common in cats as in dogs (dogs with floppy ears are particularly likely to get ear infections), ear infections are still a persistent problem, especially among Persian cats.
Unlike the case with humans (where ear infections usually start from within) ear infections in dogs and cats are usually caused by external factors: water, allergens, or foreign bodies like seeds in the ear. Another common cause is parasitic insects, particularly ear mites.
When infected, your cat's ears may become inflamed and may even discharge a black or yellowish fluid. There may also be a foul odor. Ear infections can be irritating and painful; your cat may show her discomfort by obsessively shaking her head, scratching her ears, or rubbing them against furniture... or your leg!
Common symptoms of cat ear infection:
- Frequent scratching of ears and shaking of head
- Possible mewling, obvious discomfort
- Dark-colored debris in ear (similar to fine coffee grounds), a sign of ear mites
- In extreme cases, a foul-smelling, pus-filled yellowish or dark discharge

My cat had ear hematoma and was wearing protective collar. She wanted to scratch the ear. I would apply some of Echo Gold with my finger on the inner ear surface and it seemed to relieve the itching. She did not react against it at all.

My cat has been suffering from an ear infection for a while now. I took her to the Vet and [$] later, her prescriptions were only a temporary fix. Infection came back. I ordered this product and so far so good. I've been using it for 2wks now. its been a slow process but i have seen improvement. less ear fluid, less bad odor, and she seems more comfortable...which means less shaking of the head. I plan to continue using this until I've finished the bottle. I hope it makes her ear better soon.

Comments about NHV Echo Gold for Cat Ear Infections:
This medicine helped reduce but did not completely cure my kitty's ear infection. And it caused him to lose all of the fur it touched around his ears. It was much easier to administer with a syringe I had on hand than with the dropper in the bottle. Ultimately I still brought my kitty to the vet for treatment.

Comments about NHV Echo Gold for Cat Ear Infections:
It is difficult to apply ear drops to the cat. I tried to put drops to his ear, but I am not sure if the drops went into the infected area. After applying, he stopped scratching his ear for a while, so I hope that it worked. After week, I saw the hair loss around this ear. This could be a side effect?

Q & A

Question:
Our very elderly kitty has an ear polyp (or possibly sarcoma--the vet wasn't sure). Since she is around 18 or 19 and has kidney disease, we will not be putting her through surgery. We did a course of Tresaderm and it really helped but is not for repeated use (probably due to the steroid ingredient) and her intense itching (and now fluid) has returned. Do you think this product might help relieve her itching and fluid?Asked on 1/2/2012 by Anonymous1 answer
Answer:
This product can definitely be used in your pet's case. The supplement is formulated to help heal and prevent infection as well as act reduce inflammation and inhibit bacterial formation. It also contains Tea Tree Oil that contains essential oils with bactericidal, fungicidal and healing properties. Our Echo Gold is completely safe for long term use and we have many customers that use it as a preventative if their pet is prone to ear infections.Answered on 1/5/2012 by Coreena

Question:
My cat has been dealing with an ear infection almost 4 weeks now. She is on a new round of Baytril after 2 weeks of amoxi did not get rid of it entirely and it came back even worse. The vet recommended to stop the ear wash because she has too much liquid in her ear but I'm concerned that it should be treated internally and externally to get the best results. Is this product safe for use with the antibiotics she's currently taking? Also is the dosage a large amount which may cause the same problem with liquid accumulating in the bottom of the ear canal?Asked on 12/27/2011 by Rach1 answer
Answer:
Yes, you are welcome to use the Echo Gold in conjunction with conventional medication.
The dosage for this product is is apply two to three drops into the ears three times daily. If you are trying to decrease the amount of liquid within her ear I would suggest going with the lower dosage of two droplets three times daily.
Once absorbed the supplement is very helpful in controlling bacterial infection and enhancing the healing process the ear infection.Answered on 12/29/2011 by Coreena
Question:
my cat has been shaking his head after he eats and sometimes when he comes in from outside. ive looked at his ears, which look completely normal. no sign of mites or inflammation. he doesnt scratch his ears very often either. just a few shakes after he eats, normally. ive noticed the shaking for a few weeks now, right after he came back from the vets for a UTI. could it be an infection?Asked on 11/14/2011 by Nova from Boston,Ma1 answer
Answer:
I would suggest taking your cat to the veterinarian for a further examination regarding his ears. Without knowing if it is a parasite, ear mites or infection we are unable to recommend a supplement that we carry.Answered on 11/14/2011 by Customer Care from CSR Office
Question:
How long do you need to use this??Asked on 11/11/2011 by Anonymous1 answer
Answer:
This formula is used to help treat bacterial ear infections due to the anti-biotic and anti-flammatory properties of the herbal ingredients in this formula. This product is safe for long-term use, so it can be continuously applied (per directions) until the infection clears up. It is most effective when applied three times per day, 2 - 3 drops into the affected ear while massaging the base of the ear canal to allow the product to treat the area.Answered on 11/12/2011 by Customer Care from CSR Office
Question:
I have a 16 year old female kitten - she has had ear infections from the very beginning - vet have said it is her immune system not being what it should be and others say it is allergies to her food type - I tend to believe the immune deficiency (she is a kitten from a stray). In the past they prescribed predisone, have used steroid shots and shots for infections - it clears it up but it comes back in 3-4 months. At this point it is cleared up but it will be back - Will this product be a preventative for future break outs in her ears - and how should it be administered after the infections clears up - but comes back? Hopefully this product will be the answer - I would love a response and so would Patches. Thank youAsked on 11/4/2011 by Anonymous from Glendive, Montana1 answer
Answer:
The Echo Gold product can certainly be used in a case of chronic ear infections as a preventative and during break outs of said infections. Being that your veterinarian has suggested this ailment is due to a dietary allergy, I might also suggest our grain free/gluten free dehydrated cat foods by The Honest Kitchen. We have 2 formulas to choose from, Prowl which is our chicken formula found here: http://www.petwellbeing.com/products/prowl-cat-food
as well as Grace which is the turkey formula found here: http://www.petwellbeing.com/products/grace-cat-food
We have found that dietary changes can help a majority of pets with allergic reactions.Answered on 11/7/2011 by Customer Care from CSR Office
