Description

What is Canine Arthritis?

Dogs frequently suffer from arthritis. If your pet has this condition, his joints will become inflamed (swollen) and painful as the cartilage and connective tissues of his joints slowly break down.

Warning signs that your dog is suffering from arthritis include a reluctance to stand up or climb stairs. Other telltale signs of canine arthritis include:

  • Your dog favors one side of his body
  • Limping, especially when he first gets up
  • Swollen joints (especially the hips)
  • Reduced appetite
  • Aversion to being touched or petted
  • Your dog loses interest in activities he previously enjoyed: running, swimming, playing, etc.

Large breeds of dogs tend to suffer from arthritis more often than smaller breeds. This is probably due simply to the extra weight and stress on the joints of larger breeds. What’s less clear is why purebred dogs – particularly males – suffer from canine arthritis more often than mixed breeds.

There’s no way to entirely eliminate the risk of canine arthritis. But as a pet owner, you can reduce the risk (or severity) by ensuring your dog gets plenty of regular exercise, without overdoing it. This will help keep your dog's joints healthy and well lubricated. It’ll also keep him from becoming overweight, which tends to make matters worse.

A good diet is also important in keeping canine arthritis under control. In particular, too much protein can lead to problems.

There is no cure for arthritis in dogs, but there are ways to help your dog manage the pain and improve their quality of life. Taken orally, Canine Old Timer helps soothe the pain and inflammation in your dog's joints.

My first Yorkie died two years ago of renal failure and congestive heart failure. When his sister started showing renal failure at the same age, I was desperate to find something to prevent her kidneys from getting worse. She had nausea, would not eat, did not drink enough, vomited at times, and could barely walk, due to weakness. The vets recommended 50cc of fluids given subcutaneously via needle everyday, which she hated, a special Science Diet K/D food, which she hated, meds for nausea and Pepcid as an antacid. It was a struggle. I even changed her food to something fresh with low protein but human grade meat. She was a little better. Then via an internet search, I found this website. I started Tripsy, thinking it was worth a try. She had lost weight and was a tad under two pounds, so one drop was all she needed. Wow! Now she eats like crazy, first thing in the morning, all day, at night... I then tried Old Timer (see separate review) and have just ordered the one for the heart and another for teeth. I can't wait to show my vets what she looks like.

Gracie has not been taking OLD TIMER long enough to know the effects but I have confidence in the NHV product, milk thistle in particular, which is still working to heal Gracies liver. She takes the milk thistle from a syringe like candy, she loves it. But OLD TIMER is a different story. She doesn't like the taste so I have to hide it in her food. But if it works in the long run, that's all that matters. Gracie is a 12 year old Shih Tzu.

Comments about NHV Old Timer for Dog Inflammation:

Since I have put my 14 year old springer spaniel on Old Timer, she has become much more active. She used to have trouble getting up and down the stairs and didn't run very much anymore, but now she can run up the stairs and even runs out on our walks. She was on expensive medication from the vet, but this product has been so much better for her. It is easy to use and I would recommend it to anyone with an older dog having problems getting around.

this is a great product. our little girl is 17 yr old border collie that has a hard time getting up and down with joint pain. we feel much better giving her an all natural pain reliever as oppsoed to the commercial canine aspirin. it seems to be much gentler on her stomach and it is very effective.

Comments about NHV Old Timer for Dog Inflammation:

The Old Timer seems to be helping my Freckles. I have observed her and at first thought she had hip and joint problems, however she has a hard time getting up, but once up can chase a car. So I decided it must be arthritis, and tried this product. She still has problems getting up, but not as bad. The downfall is that it has to be given twice a day, and since I travel and have a pet sitter, this can be inconvient. Otherwise I am completely happy with this product.

Comments about NHV Old Timer for Dog Inflammation:

In my own self evaluation, I decided that my Baby Freckles had arthritus? I tired this product, and while she is taking it, she can now chase the school bus across the yard. She still has a little trouble getting up from a laying down position, but once she is up, she can go ! Before she stumbled over her own feet, and even fell often. I am afraid to take her off of this, it is rather expensive, but seems to do her some good, so I would reccommend it to another dog lover if you feel they have some trouble walking. I also give her some hip and joint medication, and between the two, it keeps her walking and moving quite well.

Finally able to get my germanshepherd off dog aspirin! He has arthritis in his toes and without medication he was in a great deal of pain. Aspirin worked but constipated him which caused other issue, decided to try Old Timer. I am ecstatic! The swelling is greatly reduced, no side effects and I have a playful shepherd back. We're only half way through the first bottle! I will keep him on this from now on. I would recommend this product to anyone with an elderly best friend that has arthritis. Great product!

Shadow is a German Shepherd. She is 11 years old and weighs 111 pounds. She is a little heavier than she should be. Her hips are failing on her. She was having a hard time getting around and going up and down small steps. Since I began using Old Timers her mobility has improved. She is eager to go on our daily walk and gets up and down steps more easily. I recommend this product if your dog has joint problems.

Our 12 yr old Schipperke started showing signs of arthritis a few years ago & also injured/twisted a rear knee about the same time. After laying for awhile, she would have a difficult time standing and it seemed to take some time for her to "walk it off." We noticed within a couple of weeks, of taking Old Timer twice a day, that she wasn't having trouble getting up when called. As a mature dog, she is still eager to fetch and play seeming to have energy of a much younger girl. Her vet checked the ingredients, stating that they are safe and some are indeed anti-inflammatory herbs. Because she has had such noticeable & positive results on Old Timer, he gives his stamp of approval.

I use this product daily for my Westie, which has arthritis in her right hip. In combination with glucosamine (daily) and fish oil (3 times a week),
the product has helped my dog move pain free. She has become more active as a result of being pain free. I am pleased with how this product works.

This product has been wonderful. My two oldest corgis, Cherry and Olive, suffer from arthritis. Cherry's arthritis is servere. She can't take traditional NSAIDs because they make her sick and the doctor said that could lead to servere stomach problems. She started taking Tramadol, a morphine derivative, but it only helped a little. After adding Old Timer's, she is now able to run around again a little, and is walking much better. She still can't go up and down stairs, and has trouble lifting her behind, but once she's up she can even play fetch! Olive was doing fine with the prescription NSAIDs, but I decided to switch her to Old Timer's, and it's every bit as effective. I can't even tell Olive has arthritis anymore!

I've used this product for exactly one month on our pug to try and constrain the effects of arthritis. Minimal results are noticeable, little by little he seems to be more agile, running spurts, attempts at climbing stairs has reinvented itself. Seeing these slight improvements after one month, I am now encouraged to add Nupro for smaller breeds to his regimen. I've read customer reviews for this product and am confident in putting it to the test. My dog seems to look forward to eating more than before since I've added the Old Timer drops to his diet, and I'm looking forward to scrutinizing continued improvements in diminishing the effects of the arthritis...

I really like Old Timers for two of my three dachshunds. One is 14 1/2 yrs old and the other is 10 1/2 yrs. old. I can see a difference in both of them but the older one still has joint issues that have been going on for some time. He is a little better and a little better is better than nothing at all.

Murphy could barely walk and has been obese. With Old Timer & Supraglan, he is like a whole new dog. Even the vet is amazed and she had him on Chinese herbs. He is still on a homemade food diet along with your products. We hope the feline products will help our cat feel better, too.

Gracie is a 12 year old Shih Tzu.

my dog has cushions disease and is weak all over. She is also 14 years old. She gets around slow. She has trouble laying down and lowers herself slowly to the floor. I thought these might help her condition but no improvement so far. I give her the drops twice a day on a piece of bread.

                                            Answer:

Old Timer is an effective herbal supplement to help alleviate joint inflammation and pain associated with arthritis. For his weight of 120 lbs, it's suggested to administer 40 - 50 drops (~ 2 mL) twice a day. At this rate, each 100 mL bottle will last him just over 2 months. This product is definitely recommended for long-term, daily, usage as the product should accumulate within their system in order to see the most improvements. We also have a powder-form joint supplement from Nupro that contains all natural ingredients including glucosamine complex and MSM for joint relief: http://www.petwellbeing.com/products/joint-supplement-large-breed

                                            Answer:

The amount of Alfalfa in our Old Timer product is specifically formulated to be 100% safe for our pets. It is the seeds of alfalfa that are found to contain a toxic amina acid (l-canavanine) linked to blood disorders in humans and animals. The use of alfalfa during its prebloom stages of growth is 100% safe and that is the form of Alfalfa used in our product. The only allergic reactions known with alfalfa are pets who are sensitive to pollens. I hope this information is found to be helpful.

You would need to give your pet up to the 1.0 ml line and then again up to the 0.5ml line. These two lines are exactly equal to 35 droplets. You would need to administer this supplement twice a day. The taste for this supplement is quite sweet - most dogs do not mind the taste at all!

How long will this bottle last? I have a 40 pound dog so how much will I have to give her a day? Do I put this in her water, her food? What is in the product. It would be very helpful to see this information with the product description. I can get this information and more when I order products for myself. Thanks.
