Description
What is Prowl Cat Food?
Prowl cat food is an easy to digest cat food that is full of nutritious ingredients. It keeps older cats healthy, and young cats growing. Prowl is safe for the little ones as long as their diet is supplemented with meat. This dehydrated food when mixed with water makes a great meal. It also has an excellent shelf life and can be stored up to 12 months.
Prowl can be fed as a stand alone diet, or as a nutritionally balanced base for home made raw or cooked meals. Keep in mind, cats really enjoy a varied diet and it may be wise to rotate between several different meats as a tasty addition to Prowl.
Created from top ingredients of only the finest quality, this cat food is trend setting for felines. One of the joys of feeding Prowl dehydrated raw food to your cats is how easy the dry food rehydrates. You just mix a little warm water to the dry measure and stir.
You and your cats will adore this food. Why?
- It’s an all natural diet
- Uses meat from hormone and antibiotic free animals
- Uses fruits and vegetables that are NOT genetically modified
- It is full of vitamins and minerals to ensure your cat's nutritional needs are met
- It is free of fillers - as it's made entirely of good healthy meat, vegetables, fruits and vitamin/mineral supplements
- It is grain free - cats are essentially carnivores with a
limited ability to digest grains
Dry kibble-style cat food is not a good choice for most cats. Grains are a very poor choice for felines who are obligate carnivores and can digest only a very small amount of vegetable ingredients in their diet.
How is Prowl equal quality to any fresh food diet
Prowl contains absolutely no by-products, added salt or sugar, chemical preservatives, artificial colors or flavors and NO beet pulp, rice, wheat, corn, or soy.
Prowl is guaranteed 100% human-food-grade because they it is not produced in a pet food plant. It is made in an FDA approved, human-food-producing facility in Southern California, a plant that makes some of the very same foods you eat.
It's easy to store, simple to hydrate, and as a dry food, it's great for traveling. Best of all - Prowl dehydrated raw food tastes great too! Even the most discerning of cats will enjoy this fancy feline feast.
Why cats will enjoy Prowl
Prowl, is high in protein content at almost 33% straight out of the box, it is a perfect whole meal for adult cats. However, if you are already making homemade cat food and would like to keep doing that, then Prowl makes an excellent supplement to ensure that your pet receives all the necessary nutrients for a long and healthy life.
If you have kittens, Prowl can be served along with additional protein to make a complete meal for these young and active pets.

Comments about The Honest Kitchen Prowl Cat Food:
This food is just wonderful. Three of our four cats switched over (from kibble) without fuss. One took some convincing but he is now eating happily. I mix it with a mid-quality canned cat food to make it more palatable (although they will eat it plain) and because it reduces the cost a little bit. It costs me .75-$1 per cat, per day, about the same as feeding a high quality canned cat food. I sometimes add chopped chicken hearts (rinsed, raw) as well which the cats love, or a raw egg (sometimes just the yolk if I have one left over from something else). I love that you can mix it up!

Comments about The Honest Kitchen Prowl Cat Food:
I like to make fresh food for my cats as they have had health issues in the past. I blend this food up with cooked liver and freeze small portions that I can put in an automatic feeder so they can have fresh food during the day while I am out. I don't have to worry that they aren't getting all the nutrients as I would if I only gave them meat.

I feed my cat with prowl and cooked chick/beef added every day, but, she gets bored. I was wondering if you would consider adding more varieties such as your canine food. other than that, I will continue serving with pleasure!!!!!

Comments about The Honest Kitchen Prowl Cat Food:
I have 4 cats, including 2 elderly ones, ages 15 and 16 years. Turns out, my younger cats, ages 7 and 8 years, are the picky eaters and both are also overweight. They only like to eat dry kibble. I've tried numerous brands and flavors of wet food, but they are rejected and/or thrown up by my picky eaters. Now, they get Prowl that has been mixed with some of the higher quality wet food my older cats receive (which the picky eaters don't like) and/or with some homemade cat food (boiled chicken, potatoes, carrots). Initially, the picky eaters wouldn't eat the Prowl and wet cat food mixture, so I gave them a very small amount with their high quality kibble sprinkled on top. Over time, I have increased the Prowl/Cat Food mixture, while decreasing the kibble. They eat the few dry kibble pieces first, then they eat the Prowl/Cat Food Mixture. After 2 weeks, the picky eaters are eating less kibble and more of the wet food with Prowl. My elderly cats will eat anything I put in front of them, so adding Prowl to their food has been very easy. I like adding Prowl to the food that I make as it gives my cats the other minerals that they need. The down side to using the Prowl is that my family members won't make it up and serve to my cats. It looks like a dry soup mixture before adding the warm water and has no odor. I would recommend trying it. I would like to see Prowl come with several sealed bags of the dry mixture vs 1 big bag in 1 box. I had to find a container to store the large amount of Prowl. Smaller bags within the box would be easier to manage. It would also be nice to have a trial size to purchase, especially for someone with just one cat.

Comments about The Honest Kitchen Prowl Cat Food:
I have a 5 year old spayed female, Fancy, who has a very sensitive stomach and many food allergies, thus is a very picky eater. She has problems keeping food down, her stomach rolls and rumbles constantly as few foods agrees with her. PetWellness sent 2 sample packs of Prowl Cat food with an order for one of my other cats so I thought I'd give it a try. It has been a life saver! Fancy loves it, no more throwing up or stomach rolling, she has more energy and her hair is so shiny and soft. She doesn't like it for every meal but usually has one meal of Prowl daily and the second meal of another natural cat food product. I am so pleased - and so is Fancy that you sent the sample packs as I probably would not have bought the large box in case it wasn't suitable for her. We now have purchased the large box and are looking forward to a long relationship with both Fancy and PetWellness! THANK YOU

Comments about The Honest Kitchen Prowl Cat Food:
I repackaged the Prowl food into 1 to 1 1/2 cp portions. My rambunctious Sphynx got into one bag during the night and ate about 1 cp of it dry. I tried to put it away better but she got to it again the next night. She had teeth holes in all the bags and several were missing a lot of the dry mix. I called Honest Kitchens to be sure this wasn't a problem for her. Both my cats love the food. I make it rather soupy and put it over dry kibble as a change for them. Sometimes I mix it it with their canned food if they seem a little picky eating it by itself. They just lap the stuff up! I haven't really let it reconstitute totally before serving it to them. They didn't care for the Prowl omelette at all. I'll definitely be ordering more of it. I agree with prior reviewer - it would be great if they had it in smaller packages within the box instead of one large bag.

Comments about The Honest Kitchen Prowl Cat Food:
I feel my cats high quality canned food for dinner with Solid Gold Indigo Moon to nibble on throughout the day. I was thinking of switching their dinner to Honest Kitchen Prowl since it claims to be raw and raw food is supposed to be good for cats.
First of all the claim of it being "raw" is not entirely true. This food has been heated at a relatively low temperature but it is still cooked.
Secondly, my cats will not eat it. Even if I sprinkle just a little bit of this on my cats regular food they will walk away. My cats are not fussy critters. I have to be careful where I leave my human food because they will gobble up anything (i.e. cranberries, lettuce, egg shells, tofu etc). When you mix this food up with water it turns into this weird green tinged pasty substance and it tastes like nothing. Yup, I tasted it. I always taste test what I feed my cats. And this stuff has no taste whatsoever. Actually, it has a slight bitter aftertaste.
Since this food is not really raw, I am just going back to the high quality canned food for dinner. What a waste of time this was.

Comments about The Honest Kitchen Prowl Cat Food:
I have 7 cats. I'd love to be able to feed them the most healthy cat food but I really can't afford this food. Also just received my first order of Tripsy today...the cat with the struvite crystals has thrown up both times I tried to get a dose in him. Help!

Directions
Designed to not only taste good, but to be easy on the human family as well, Prowl mixes easily and only requires warm water to hydrate the food. This form of dehydration followed by hydration is good for cats as they can use the extra moisture to keep their fine-tuned digestive systems healthy.
Portion Guidelines
Serve the proper measure of dry Prowl, as per the cat's weight, in
a bowl with a little warm water. If the cat weighs -
- 1-6 lbs, serve 1-6 tablespoons per day
- 6-10 lbs, serve 6-10 tablespoons per day
- 10-16 lbs, serve 8-14 tablespoons per day
- 16-20 lbs, serve 14-16 tablespoons per day
One tablespoon of Prowl will make about 1/2 oz of fresh food when hydrated
Yield Guidelines
- One tablespoon of Prowl added to water - makes approximately ½ ounce of fresh food
- A four pound box when hydrated - makes approximately 10 pounds of fresh food
This becomes an economical way to serve nutritious goodness to those we love.

Question:
Is the taurine level in Prowl adequate or should I supplement?Asked on 1/5/2012 by Anonymous1 answer
Answer:
Prowl can be fed as a stand alone diet, or as a nutritionally balanced base for home made raw or cooked meals. Keep in mind, cats really enjoy a varied diet and it may be wise to rotate between several different meats as a tasty addition to Prowl. You are also welcome to use extra supplements if you feel your pet needs a larger amount.Answered on 1/9/2012 by Coreena
Question:
Hi! I was wondering if this diet is ok for cats diagnosed with CRF. As they say to much protien isn't good for them. Thanks,
ConnieAsked on 11/7/2011 by Anonymous1 answer
Answer:
Cats are 'true carnivores' which means they actually require a high protein diet in order to sustain their physical and biochemical bodily functions. Foods with a high quality meat source (high bio-availability/easily digestible), is preferable over poor quality protein sources such as corn or meat by-products. For cats in CRF, what you want to pay attention to in terms of diet is the ash, phosphorus and sodium content of the food. Prowl is a great quality food that actually uses human-grade meat, fruits, vegetables, and ingredients. It is grain-free, which is also beneficial due to the low requirement of carbs in their diet. Question:
My cats are older...between 12-16 years old... I was under the impression that senior cats should be on low protein diets in order not to stress out the kidneys and liver. What are your thoughts on feeding Prowl to senior cats? I have tried most of the high quality commercial canned cat foods but my cats are very finicky and don't care for most of them. I am trying to find something that is good for them that they will eat instead of the not-so-good-for-you canned cat food that they like.Asked on 10/21/2011 by Anonymous1 answer
Answer:
The Prowl and Grace both are great foods for your Senior pet as the protein in them wil be easier to digest vz regular kibble and canned foods. The quality and the way the protein is processed is of main importance and both these foods would be fine for your pet. Here are the links to both those products

Question:
Is the nutritional analysis 'as fed' and carbs seem high so is there a breakdown of what is from meat vs. veggies/fruit? I've heard carbs for cats when from veggies/fruits should be below 10%.Asked on 10/21/2011 by Cheryl G from Midland, Tx1 answer
Answer:
No, there is not a breakdown of what is meat vs veggies and fruit as it is formulated to meet nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Cat Food Nutrient Profiles for maintenance.
This food is minimally processed to preserve the natural nutrients and present; the food undergoes no high heat dehydration whatsoever, and is therefore a highly concentrated source of natural nutrition.Answered on 10/25/2011 by Customer Care from CSR Office
Question:
One of my cats was diagnosed as borderline starting kidney issues through her last vet blood test. Is this a safe selection for her? I know low phosphorus and low sodium are very important with high moisture content. They recommend low protein but have read that is not always such a healthy way to go.
Also, I have read that flax seed can be harmful to cats because it is hard to break down. Is your flaxseed ground or can you tell me why it is ok to include? I didn't see it on your list so I can assume there is no guar gum or carnageenan in it, correct?
What is the difference in Grace and Prowl--taste? Ingredients? Why would you choose one over the other?
Is it sufficient on it's own to feed my 16 year-old cats or must I add raw meat or other foods to it?
Thank you.Asked on 10/15/2011 by Jane from Downers Grove, IL1 answer
Answer:
Hello Jane,
I would suggest our Grace food compared to the Prowl. While they have similar ingredients I would suggest the Grace as it is very easy for pet's to absorb and digest due to the pumpkin within the formula. Both of the taste of the foods are very well liked by cat's whom try it as they also contain dehydrated meats (Prowl with Chicken, Grace with Turkey -- All the meat used in this recipe is hormone and antibiotic free.)
(See Grace ingredients here: http://www.petwellbeing.com/products/grace-cat-food#ingredients and Prowl ingredients here: http://www.petwellbeing.com/products/prowl-cat-food#ingredients)
The protein within the food is free of fillers -It is grain free - cats are essentially carnivores with a limited ability to digest grains.
Grace can be fed as a stand alone diet, or as a nutritionally balanced base for home made raw or cooked meals. Keep in mind, cats really enjoy a varied diet and it may be wise to rotate between several different meats as a tasty addition to Grace.Answered on 10/25/2011 by Customer Care from CSR Office
Question:
when handling Prowl cat food do you need to treat it like you are handling raw chicken in the kitchen being very careful to disinfect everything and to not cross contaminate?Asked on 10/11/2011 by Anonymous1 answer
Answer:
The Prowl cat food is not a raw food. The meat ingredients are dehydrated at a specific temperature and are considered cooked but just to a point where there is not as much denaturing of the proteins. This gives the ingredients a better quality to the nutrition they can provide and is almost as good as a raw diet. There is no worry about cross contamination and the food is safe.
We also now carry the Grace from this brand http://www.petwellbeing.com/products/grace-cat-food another excellent food by The Honest Kitchen.Answered on 10/13/2011 by Customer Care from CSR Office
